In Nieuwegein, the province of Utrecht, the municipality of Nieuwegein and the Stichtse Rijnlanden Water Authority see opportunities for more experience and better accessibility of the New Dutch Waterline. There are good points of contact with the ambitions of these three government organisations on the themes of climate adaptation, recreational routes and biodiversity. The larger green-blue structures of Nieuwegein, which also includes the waterline with various forts and waterworks, are the ideal area where ambitions for these different themes can be combined and developed.

Based on the analysis of the themes climate adaptation by Witteveen + Bos and recreational routes by Track landscapes and the overarching theme the New Dutch Waterline, eight promising locations have emerged that have the potential to jointly improve multiple themes. Elaborations have been made on these eight locations that illustrate these potentials.
